Our office was commissioned to carry out a full renovation of a derelict summer house in the Vallpineda hills of Sitges, near Barcelona. The property had been left unattended for years by the previous owner and was in poor condition, with small bathrooms, limited natural light, and a confusing floor plan. Full refurbishment of a villa in Vallpineda | SITGES
The main design concept centered around maximizing natural light and enhancing the connection to the beautiful sea views. The front of the house was opened up to the garden, allowing sunlight to flood the living spaces and creating a seamless flow between the interior and exterior. The living room was redesigned to be on the same level as the rest of the house, with the central feature being a gas fireplace that anchors the space. A stunning kitchen island with an integrated breakfast area was added next to the new dining room, and the kitchen was outfitted with custom oak-fronted drawers to keep the appliances and facilities discreetly hidden.
To create flexibility within the space, the different living areas are separated by solid wood sliding doors, which provide privacy when needed and open to create a more open-plan layout. The laundry area was conveniently located near the guest toilet and the secondary bedrooms, which were revitalized with new windows to ensure plenty of natural light.
The main bedroom was completely reimagined, introducing a dressing room, a small office space, and two sliding doors that allow the room to be partially closed off, creating the option to separate the bedroom, bathroom, and other areas for added privacy and functionality.
The exterior design features a series of platforms and pathways leading guests through various outdoor spaces. Thoughtfully placed fountains and lush planting create different zones, offering both privacy and a peaceful atmosphere. A private terrace area was created for the main bedroom, while an auxiliary platform near the expansive balcony windows provides an outdoor area perfect for entertaining or relaxing during the summer months.
