Our team was commissioned to design a modern residential home in the La Plana neighborhood, located close to the Mediterranean Sea and the historic center of Sitges, Barcelona. This unique residential sector, with its proximity to green spaces and the Mediterranean coast, provided the ideal location for creating a contemporary-style home that blends seamlessly with its surroundings.

In response to the client’s desire for the maximum allowable building area, the design pushes the envelope, extending to the lateral limits of the plot and minimizing setbacks from the street. This creates an expansive rear space for a luxurious garden and pool area, complemented by a large hard esplanade that serves as a functional service space for the house.

The architectural design features simple, elegant volumes that harmonize with the natural landscape, offering a modern aesthetic while preserving the character of the Mediterranean environment.

One of the key design features is the horizontal plane of the porch, which extends across the front of the house. Inspired by traditional Mediterranean architecture, the porch provides much-needed shade over the living areas. This element has been reinterpreted in a timeless, minimalist style, using concrete and stone materials to create a clean, modern aesthetic. The strategic use of light and shadow enhances the views of the garden and swimming pool, creating a tranquil and inviting atmosphere.

The interior spaces are thoughtfully distributed across three levels: the basement dedicated to functional spaces, including a gym and an engine room; the ground floor featuring a spacious living room with direct access to the garden and pool, a modern kitchen, and a guest residence for privacy and convenience and the first floor: maintaining the private bedrooms and bathrooms, offering a quiet retreat for the homeowners.

The structure of the house incorporates waffle slabs with lost casings, a construction method that imparts an industrial, contemporary look to the interior spaces. This unique feature not only adds to the modern aesthetic of the house but also offers flexibility in the future. The exposed structure can be left as is for an industrial feel or covered with plaster and paint to create a softer, more traditional look.
