Rehabilitation in a historic building | SITGES

This architectural project involved the renovation and rehabilitation of a neglected 150-year-old building, transforming it into a modern office and residence for a young professional. The goal was to preserve the building’s original character while giving it a new purpose, blending contemporary design with historical elements. The ground floor, visibly disfigured through the years, required the careful removal of multiple layers of materials to uncover and restore the building’s original structure.

The space was divided into two distinct areas. The office, located in the public-facing part of the unit, serves as a functional work environment, separated from the private residential section by a corridor. This layout ensures privacy while maintaining an open and airy feel. The residential part, which opens to an interior patio, features an open-plan kitchen and dining area designed for modern living. A large, functional monolith divides the living and sleeping areas, housing storage solutions such as wardrobes and integrated appliances like a wine fridge and freezer.

Reformas interiores integrales: transformación de espacios para mayor confort y estética

The design includes a comfortable living room with a large, three-panel window that opens directly to the courtyard, creating a seamless flow between the interior and exterior spaces. The flooring throughout the space combines tiles and gravel, helping to define and differentiate each area while enhancing the overall aesthetic. The residence also includes a fully equipped bathroom, offering both style and functionality.

This project exemplifies how we blend modern architecture with historical preservation, creating a flexible and unique living space that honors the past while meeting the needs of contemporary life.
